Volunteer Opportunity for Emergency Preparedness Exercise



Show-Me Exercise – New Madrid Earthquake Preparedness 

Independence and Jackson County Emergency Preparedness are participating in the Missouri Show-Me National Mass Care Exercise to test their ability to respond to a disaster, especially as it relates to the expected New Madrid Earthquake. Residents have the opportunity to volunteer.


9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

-         -  All ages are welcome
-         -  Lunch provided at no cost
-         - Play the part of a disaster survivor
-         - Learn about  emergency preparedness and what happens after a disaster occurs
-         -  Free training on how to help disaster survivors and prepare for disasters
-          - Interactive tour of an evacuee reception center and disaster complex shelter

The Village will provide transportation to and from the training. The bus will pick up residents at 8:15 a.m. at Places Restaurant, and upon returning to the Village, bringing them to their homes.
